DESCRIPTION:RadicalxChange: Next Generation Political Economy\nGlen Weyl (Microsoft Office of the Chief Technology Officer Political Economist and Social Technologist (OCTOPEST); Founder and Chair\, RadicalxChange Foundation) \nWhy is economic and political power concentrating into fewer hands as the planet bakes and economies stagnate?  While our technologies are expanding\, the way we govern and organize our societies has stagnated\, despite being far more primitive than our technology.  Capitalism ignores the social nature of most consumption and production and nation states are based on arbitrary historical majorities that oppress minorities and undermine international cooperation.  We need to fundamentally upgrade these systems in the same way the telephone fundamentally upgraded on the telegraph.  The RadicalxChange movement has begun implementing such an upgrade in collaboration with governments and entrepreneurs around the world\, creating property systems that represent the collective nature of value and voting systems that allow for flexible and evolving expressions of the importance of issues.  We are currently designing systems to recognize the intersectional nature of social identity and create a social basis for value accounting.  Yet all this is just a first step in treating our political economy as the social technology it is\, to be experimented with on small scales and ultimately transformed again and again by the diverse peoples it serves. \nNo registration required.
