Congratulations to our Young ECONtribute Program (YEP) Fellow Jonas Löbbing! Jonas has been awarded the Peggy and Richard Musgrave Prize 2019 of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF) for his paper “Redistributive Income Taxation with Directed Technical Change”.

The prestigious IIPF Peggy and Richard Musgrave Prize is awarded annually since 2003 to honor and encourage younger scholars whose work meets the high standards of scientific quality, creativity and relevance that has been a mark of the Musgraves’ contribution to public finance.

Matthias Doepke, Ökonom und Autor von “Love, Money, and Parenting: How Economics Explains the Way We Raise Our Kids” belegt in seiner Forschung, dass die wirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen unterschiedliche Erziehungsstile fördern. Einladung Selten Salon 2019 – Kindererziehung aus ökonomischer Sicht

 

 

We are happy to announce that ECONtribute spokesperson Prof. Isabel Schnabel has been elected as Vice Chair of the Advisory Scientific Committee (ASC) of the European Systemic Risk Board.

The ASC Board consists of 15 experts representing a wide range of skills, experience and expertise. It contributes to the public debate on macroprudential policy by publishing reports. Past contributions include calls for: credible bank resolution; a European capital markets union; and enhanced disclosure of carbon-intensive assets.

The ASC Board meets quarterly in Frankfurt and publishes reports on a regular basis. Isabel Schnabel had already been a board member before and was now elected as Vice Chair. She is also a member of the German Council of Economic Experts, research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy (CEPR) and at the Max-Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods. Prof. Schnabel lectures Financial Economics at the University of Bonn, her main fields of research are financial stability, systemic risk and banking regulation.

Europe 2030 –What are our young generation´s visons for the next decade?

The “Denkfabrik Europa 2030” brought student together to discuss and develop their ideas and visions for Europe in 2030.

The event, jointly organized by ECONtribute, Deutsche Post DHL Group and “Denkraum Soziale Marktwirtschaft, took place on 13th May 2019 in Bonn.

Participants came up with mesmerizing projects and future visions on the European Union in 2030. How can we foster a European sense of identity? How can we ensure safety for our citizens and provide them with a good infrastructure? How can we improve our parliamentary system? Shall we aim for “a European Republic”? And what about the economy and social security?

Students presented their projects to an audience of 120 people and four judges: Professor Isabel Schnabel (Spokesperson ECONtribute), Cem Özdemir (Alliance ’90/The Greens), Dr. Thomas Ogilvie (CEO Corporate Incubations at Deutsche Post DHL Group) and Dr. Dirk Aßmann (Director General of GIZ, German Association for International Cooperation). The winning team´s project “Europaexpress” aims to improve Europe’s infrastructure by introducing a “European ministry of transportation”.

Joint ECONtribute – IZA Workshop

The workshop will focus on the causes and effects of heterogeneity among workers, households, or firms on macroeconomic outcomes. This includes but is not limited to research on wage dispersion, heterogeneity in unemployment and participation, the roles of firms and technologies in shaping heterogeneity, labor market outcomes for females and males, consequences of skill heterogeneity, or the heterogeneous effects of technological change, demographic change, labor market concentration, and labor market institutions. Empirical and theoretical papers are both welcome. The workshop is sponsored by the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) and the Cluster ECONtribute (EXC 2126) at the Departments of Economics at Bonn and Cologne.

We are happy to announce that participation has already been confirmed by Arindrajit Dube (University of Massachusetts Amherst and IZA), Iourii Manovskii (University of Pennsylvania), Hélène Turon (University of Bristol and IZA), and Abigail Wozniak (Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and IZA).

Researchers interested in participating should submit a full paper or an extended abstract by July 1, 2019 using the Online Application Form. Decision of acceptance or rejection will be announced by August 1, 2019.
